As part of the ‘1 to 1′ netbook project, I have been working with a number of schools to look at how Google SketchUp can be used in the classrooom. And while there are plenty of good videos to show how to get started with the tools, I wanted to try out a new screencasting program so I created my own short tutorial. I hope it’s useful to someone! You can download it here if you are not subscribed via the podcast.
Introduction to Google Sketchup from Darrel Branson on Vimeo.
I’ve also found a new website dedicated to resources around screencasting. Check it out here: http://scrast.net It looks like it is a great place for all of your screencasting needs.

A nice little video, Darrel. I’ve also been experimenting with screencasting. What did you use to create this? We can’t install programs on school network so I’ve been using CamStudio portable and running it from my usb.

Mark

Thank you so much, I’m planning on taking a look at some of these things and learn more — like the thoughts on 1:1 netbook program as well. Thank you so much for sharing! (So glad to see you link to my dear friend Anne Baird, she is a gem!)

Hello Mark,
Doesn’t sound like a very friendly network!
I was using some beta software that isn’t quite ready for prime time but you can always use jing which is free. Or in your situation checkout http://www.screentoaster.com/ and http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/ which are browser based solutions.
Cheers

Mark, I use screentoaster for my screencasts on my blog. I tried using Jing but it didn’t work out for my purposes. Works pretty slick as well.
Thanks for putting the screencast together Darrel. I wished I had this introduction earlier in the year. Can’t wait to see the other posts on your blog. May I repost your video on my blog?
Sketchup is a great program.
